About all the silly things, corruption, greed, and war that took place in a fictional country in South America in the 70's and 80's. Excellent read, very funny.

Louis de Bernieres, author of the best-selling Corelli's Mandolin, knows the issues of the South American continent like the back of his hand. Consider The War of Don Emmanuel's Nether Parts the soft, ticklish flesh between the thumb and the index finger. His first novel is strewn in political and social themes, set in a South American country, or, more specifically, a symbolic village that represents all the tugging themes. Sharp, witty but at the same time cutting and abrasive, it tells of how paradise can lose sight of itself amid all the conflict to control it.
