Malaysia
July and September, 1998
Peninsular Malaysia is a good place to start traveling in the developing world because it has modern conveniences in the city and a traditional culture in the country. Roads are smooth and the buses are modern and comfortable. It still possesses the charm of South-East Asia in spite of being so modern. I haven’t been to Borneo, but I suspect it’s a much different place, so this doesn’t apply everywhere.

This is one of the Mosques that you see in Penang, Malaysia. Malaysia has plenty of Muslims and in the evenings (and at all prayer times) the air of the cities are filled with surreal chanting over loud speakers from all the mosques.
