In August of 2007, Daymon Miller and I decided to take the Snow & Ice Long weekend with Yamnuska Mountain School. We would spend two days training on how to safely travel on snow slopes and glaciers before climbing Mt. Athabasca (3491m), which is a classic snow & ice route.

Our first day was spend practicing self-arrests, a crevasse haul rescue and building t-slot anchors. The second day was spent on ice, practicing crevasse rescue, travel on ice and rope techniques. At the end of the second day we roped up and moved around the bottom of the Little Athabasca Glacier.
